Manchester United beat Newcastle 4-1 yesterday, with lots of satanic connotations, as one might expect from the Red Devils. While the goals total didn’t reach 6, the Number of the Beast, the Red Devils did score four, the same amount of letters in evil. Moreover, Newcastle scored the first, providing the D: D-evil.
I don’t believe in it myself, and it’s just a bit of comedy wordplay. Manchester football does seem a bit like heaven and hell at the moment though, with City playing nice free football, while little madman imp Mourinho has surrounded himself with big men that look like stereotypical demons… like I can do now too, showing I’m not trying to demonise others and not myself! He reminds me of The Cult’s Lil Devil:
POP Sky in the… Example of Different Fields
My POP (PinkyOrangePurple) paradigm shift in twilight colours from red has nothing to do with football, although it’s a funny and convenient coincidence, and is firmly rooted in nature and science – therefore providing an example of how I’m writing about lots of things, above and beyond the grass roots topics of sport, race and sex; I may write about them too, but they are not the be all and end all.
My POP paradigm shift was purely accidental, as a result of observing the sky quite a lot, and writing a book with a pop art theme at the time. My POPolutionaries, created generic name, for some imagined fans, mostly parodying Russell Brand’s revolutionaries, followed on from that… and calling fans of the greenYgrey greenYgreyliens. I don’t know of any POPolutionaries or greenYgreyliens, and joking about it probably means there won’t be, but I think my writing is good enough to have some ‘fans’.
Should the old proverb ‘red sky in the morning/night, shepherd’s warning/delight’ be changed to ‘POP sky…’? I don’t know, but don’t think books should be recalled and pulped because of it.
Dairy Friends Theory Better than Veins
In another example of different fields converging, but being separate, this is about friends, using an analogy, but it does bring up material from another topic I am quite passionate about.
A few blog posts ago I wrote that extracting yourself from negative friends was like taking fat out of veins so you can breathe better, but that was a spontaneous prose stream of consciousness thought, and I’d thought of one I consider better before, and remembered it again afterwards.
Over the last fifteen years I’ve been trying to eat healthier, and had acquired a few maxims from the internet, such as eating foods containing vitamin C with iron foods, which are nuts and green leaved veg for me. However, years after I read that, I read that eating foods containing dairy with such iron foods can have as much of a negative impact as vitamin C can have a positive impact.
Readers who think I’m trying to convince them to eat healthily or veganly will probably be thinking I’m trying to get them to stop eating dairy, but I’m just about to add that eating dairy and other fats with tomatoes is supposed to be beneficial for releasing lycopene, the beneficial compound within.

I have now become a bit of an androidesque human, reminding me of a documentary about Gary Numan (Android in La La Land) in 2016, where he seemed a bit like Chris Packham in his Asperger’s documentary. I liked AFE, in my year 1BR (1 Year Before Rock), 1979, but not enough to become a fan. Totally opposite to the scruffy bedlam of rock and metal looking back on it:

So I was thinking it’s the same with friends as it is with dairy: some friends bring out the best in you, and some diminish you; but they might do the opposite for other people, as dairy works well with some foods but not others.
It’s up to you to find out what works for you, but like food nutrition it probably doesn’t make that much difference while you’re young. With friends, you’ve probably got enough choice of friends and locations, in bigger places anyway, or the freedom to go elsewhere. With foods you’ve probably got enough health to not have to worry about nutrition, although there are unfortunately exceptions.
I didn’t start worrying about either that much until I was about 40, when health concerns meant eating healthily and cutting down on socialising meant the two kind of converged, or were allowed to converge by me, looking back on it self-analysis philosophically!?
Only For Those Wanting to Eat Better
That’s the friends analogy over with, and this is actually food nutrition, feeling I should mention it, but thinking I’ll probably get the same reception from most as Greg Davies’s protagonist in Man Down this week as he tried to inspire a thirst for knowledge!
While I thought I was eating quite healthily for most of my life, advances in scientific nutrition now suggest I wasn’t. Other people have lived to old ages eating ‘traditional food’, so I’m not trying to preach here. Showing I’m trying to provide the full picture, maybe the feel-good mental health factor of food you like the taste of will release endorphins etc that will outweigh the nutritional benefits of foods you don’t? I used to miss some foods, but don’t any more really, as I find there’s enough choice, but that’s a long process.
If you do believe in food science, the latest advice on how to get the best out of fruit and veg seems to seems to have been captured in one book by James Wong: How to Eat Better, which I am trying to follow, especially the storing and cooking parts, as the different types is constrained by availability and cost.
